 Welcome to James Brown Photography

For those who are not familiar with the location and history of THE ISLE of SKYE, HERE IS A BRIEF INTRODUCTION

The deep inland lochs and the high sharp crags of the Cuillin mountains marking  the skyline  are a feature that draws people from around the world who have heard of its landscape and legend.  Intermingled with local folklore, it is where the past is always remembered. Artists, mountaineers, rock climbers, writers and hill walkers, flock here throughout the summer and winter. The two dominant clans that fought over this island, the Macdonalds and the Macleods, may be a thing from the past, but never forgotten. The legend of  Prince Charles Edward Stuart (the 'Bonnie Prince') and Flora Macdonald who helped the Prince flee the country after Culloden, are just a part of its history. The island has been written about by countless artists and writers. poet Walter Scott, painter J.M.W. Turner, and in the famous diaries of Samuel Johnson and James Boswell, who travelled through these parts in the 18th. century.

I have lived and worked here half my life and my photographs are a reflection of all that I see every day.  With the sale of my work I also hope to share this island with the people who may never have the opportunity to see it and those that may be planning a trip. I welcome any enquiry for information on travel and photography around Highland Scotland.
